BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Make it four straight NEC series wins for the LIU baseball team.
Max Samson produced the first two homers of his LIU career and
Connor Price also went deep as the Sharks won Sunday's rubber game against Merrimack, 10-4, at LIU Baseball Stadium.
Samson, a redshirt junior who transferred from Towson, finished 4-for-5 with four RBIs and four runs scored.
He had solo homers in the first and fourth innings and then a two-run double in the sixth that opened a 7-4 lead.
LIU entered the sixth tied at 4, but
Brian O'Boyle produced a tiebreaking RBI double, Samson followed in the next at-bat by plating two runs, and Samson then capped the inning's scoring on an error.
Starter
Garrett Yawn earned the win after limiting Merrimack to four runs on eight hits while striking out six in six innings.
Shane Tucker then entered and unfortunately departed due to injury.
Justin DeCastro tossed 42 pitches over 2 2/3 scoreless innings to close out the win.
The Sharks next host Hofstra in a nonconference game on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the LIU Baseball Stadium.
