WEST WINDSOR, N.J. — The LIU men's tennis team has one win in the books at the Northeast Conference Tournament.
The fourth-seeded Sharks swept No. 5 Wagner, 4-0, in a quarterfinal match on Friday at the Mercer County Tennis Center.
LIU advances to face top-seeded St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday at 9 a.m. in a semfinal.
Against Wagner,
Philip Hilble and
Ales D'Anna at first doubles and
Gui Medeiros and
Akhil Indrabalan at second doubles got wins to put LIU on the scoreboard and prematurely end the third doubles match.
Hilble then produced a 6-1, 6-0 win at first singles, Indrabalan won 6-2, 6-1 at fifth singles and Medeiros won 6-1, 6-0 at sixth singles to close out the decisive victory.
"We came out strong and focused from the very start today," coach
Jan Griga said. "We had set a team goal to win the doubles point today, and the guys stepped up in a big way and played clean, aggressive doubles to clinch the point. We carried the momentum into singles and took care of business to clinch the match. It was a very solid start for us. We feel ready to take on SFC tomorrow."
