NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — The LIU women's basketball team locked up the No.7 seed in the NEC Tournament after its 59-57 win against Central Connecticut State on Thursday night.
Ashley Austin scored a team-high 18 points in the Sharks' final regular season finale. The junior guard also dished out three assists in LIU's road win against the Blue Devils.
Cristina Bermejo also continued her impressive play. The graduate student scored 16 points and grabbed five rebounds in the Sharks' seventh win of the season.
LIU, which has won four of its last five games, plays at No. 2 Sacred Heart in the first round of the NEC Tournament on Monday.
On Thursday night, with the No. 7 seed at stake, LIU overcame a late six-point deficit. Mariah Elohim gave LIU a 56-54 lead on a three-pointer with 84 seconds remaining and the Sharks didn't trail again.
The Sharks will look to upset the Pioneers after falling to them twice in the regular season.
