EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — A pair of LIU women's hockey standouts have earned coveted spots on their national team.
Goaltender
Tindra Holm and defenseman
Paula Bergström will represent Sweden in the April 5-16 IIHF Women's World Championship.
The 10-nation event will be played in Canada.
It marks Holm's first time competing for the national team.
The NEWHA champion Sharks last week culminated their first season under head coach
Kelly Nash with the program's first-ever National Collegiate Women's Ice Hockey Championship appearance.
Holm, a sophomore from Skellefteå, Sweden, was a National Women's Goalie of the Year semifinalist, the NEWHA Goaltender of Year and the NEWHA tournament MVP in 2022-23. She produced a 15-11 record, 2.80 GAA and .932 save percentage in 29 games.
Bergström, a junior from Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, was the NEWHA Defender of the Year. She previously represented Sweden at the IIHF Women's World Championship in last summer in Denmark.
