EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — The LIU women's hockey team clinched the NEWHA regular-season title this past weekend in part because of strong defensive play.
And on Tuesday, junior
Anna Fairman was recognized as the conference's Defensive Player of the Week.
Fairman, who hails from Troy, Mich., became the fifth different LIU defensemen to receive the honor this season. She joined four-time honoree
Paula Bergström, two-time honoree
Alva Johnsson,
Emma Mörtl and
Sasha Hartje.
In a pair of games at Stonehill this past weekend, including Friday's NEWHA regular-season clincher, Fairman contributed one assist. The defense surrendered a combined two goals in a 2-0 win and 2-2 tie.
Additionally on Tuesday, teammates
Ashley Morrow,
Tindra Holm and
Ryane Kearns were named to the conference's weekly honor roll.
The Sharks return to action this weekend with a home-and-home series against Sacred Heart, beginning Friday at 2 p.m. in Shelton, Conn.
