ROCK HILL, S.C. — The LIU baseball team headed home after falling in its finale at Winthrop, 12-1, on Sunday afternoon.
The Sharks were held hitless by Winthrop starter Riley Huge until Jarrod Wade's two-out single in the fifth. LIU got on the scoreboard an inning later on
Connor Price's bases-loaded walk with two outs.
Right-hander
Ty McInnes departed after 2 2/3 innings in his LIU debut.
Shane Tucker logged two perfect relief innings with three strikeouts.
James Steindl, returning from shoulder injuries that had sidelined him for three full college seasons, retired both batters he faced in relief. It was his first college action since May 14, 2019.
LIU returns south next weekend for three games at Kennesaw State. The Sharks then remain in Georgia for a Feb. 28 game at Georgia Tech.
