NEWARK, N.J.— The women's basketball team traveled to NJIT on Sunday afternoon and played a hard fought game.
LIU trailed by as much as 18 in the second half, but the Sharks kept on clawing their way back. Some clutch baskets by
Nigeria Harkless,
Alexzeya Brooks and
Mariah Elohim got the Sharks within three with less than two minutes to play. Unfortunately for LIU, time and possession was not on their side in the dying seconds and they fell 58-54.
Mariah Elohim had a team-high 11 points while also adding a rebound and an assist.
Nigeria Harkless put together a nice game, recording 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Emaia O'Brien and
Ashley Austin were tied for the team-high in assists with three.
The Sharks return to the court on Saturday when they open NEC play at home against Stonehill.
