BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The LIU women's basketball team opened up the LIU Classic this weekend when it took on visiting CSU Bakersfield.
The Sharks started off hot and went to the half with a five-point lead. Unfortunately for the,, the hot streak would fizzle out as a sluggish third quarter would seep into the fourth and shots weren't hit. LIU trailed by as much as 10 in the fourth and clawed its way back, but there was not enough time on the clock and the Sharks fell 62-57.
Senior guard
Ashley Austin starred once again for LIU as she led the team in scoring with 20 points, her first 20-point game of the season. The Compton, Calif. native also recorded seven rebounds, two steals and an assist.
Nigeria Harkless dominated the boards and led the Sharks with 10 rebounds.
LIU will return to the court Saturday afternoon when it takes on Hampton at 4 p.m. in the final game of the LIU Classic.
