EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — Demonstrating their commitment beyond the rink, the LIU men's hockey team recently donated over 1,000 cans of non-perishable food to the Island Harvest Food Bank.
The Sharks gathered these items within a week, showing their dedication to supporting those in need within the community.
During the Sharks' Island Harvest Food Drive game against Sacred Heart, the team received support from their fan base. Fans showed up not only to watch LIU knock off Sacred Heart 2-1, but also generously contribute donations to the cause.
"I am very proud of the effort in our recent Island Harvest Food Drive. Every member of our team was extremely active in contributing to this great cause," head coach
Brett Riley said. "We have made it a priority to be supportive in the community and Island Harvest has become an annual tradition, as well as a great way to give back. We look forward to many events in the future."
The significant donation, totaling over 1,000 items and weighing more than 1,000 pounds, was delivered to the Island Harvest Food Bank in Melville.
