NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.—  The LIU women's basketball team wrapped up its three game road-trip to start the season on Sunday when they traveled to take on Iona.
 
The Sharks and Gaels battled back and forth with Iona taking a slim one-point lead into the half. The Sharks looked to gain momentum but a 16-5 Iona run to start the third quarter put the game out of reach. The Sharks fell 80-59.
 
Nigeria Harkless led the team in scoring and rebounding with 16 points and 7 rebounds.
 
Amaya Dowdy was not far behind her with 15 points and six rebounds.
 
Janessa Williams continues to be impressive off the glass, grabbing six rebounds herself.
 
Ashley Austin and Emaia O'Brien were tied for the assist lead with five a piece.
 
The Sharks will return to the court on Friday when they take on Lafayette in their home opener at 2 p.m.
