BOSTON — After defeating Connecticut College on Friday, the LIU men's water polo team traveled to Massachusetts to take on Harvard and MIT in a Saturday doubleheader.
In the first match, nationally ranked Harvard jumped on the Sharks early and left the first period with an 8-2 victory. The deficit was too much for LIU to overcome and they fell 22-7.
Charlie Downey scored three goals while
Riyad Shehadeh and
Karl Lovett each scored a pair. Shehadeh added a highlight reel backhand goal in the end of the second period.
In the second game of the day, LIU took on MIT who it defeated back a month ago in Brooklyn.
The Sharks were locked in a battle early, but the Engineers were seeking revenge and were able to pull away 6-2 at the end of the first period.
MIT would gain momentum and avenge their loss to the Sharks as LIU fell 14-8.
The Sharks return to the Sunday when they take on Brown in Providence at 10 a.m.
