BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The Northeast Conference on Tuesday saluted the achievements of its fall-sports student-athletes both in the classroom and in competition.
And LIU had a banner day.
Three Sharks earned Fall Scholar-Athlete honors from the NEC as the top combined athletic/academic achievers in their sports: women's volleyball's Anastasia Scott, women's cross country's Ainhoa Brea and men's cross country's Elyas Ayyoub.
Additionally, 166 LIU fall student-athletes were named to the NEC Fall Academic Honor Roll for maintaining at least a 3.20 GPA and 57 student-athletes earned a spot on the Commissioner's Honor Roll for achieving at least a 3.75 GPA.

Rattmer, Regateiro and Smith have 4.0 cumulative GPAs.
Ayyoub, a sophomore from Capetown, South Africa, possesses a 3.96 GPA as a biology major. He earned All-NEC honors this past fall, was a two-time NEC Athlete of the Week and finished second at the Oct. 28 NEC Championship with an 8K time of 24:52.4.
Brea, a senior from Llanera, Asturias, Spain, has a 3.96 GPA as a biology major. She won the NEC Championship with a 5K time of 17:31.4, earning NEC Outstanding Runner and All-NEC honors as a result.
Scott earned a 3.92 GPA as an undergrad at LIU, and now has a 3.78 GPA as a graduate student studying data analytics. She won her third straight NEC Defensive Player of Year award this past fall, making history as the first student-athlete to earn the award three times in conference history.
