BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Seven LIU athletic teams produced the top GPAs of any conference member in their respective sports during the 2021-22 academic year.
Baseball (3.48 GPA), men's cross country (3.48), football (3.25), men's swimming and diving (3.32), men's tennis (3.78), women's swimming and diving (3.55), and women's volleyball (3.65) all earned Northeast Conference Team GPA awards on Thursday.
Overall, LIU student-athletes produced a 3.459 GPA, finishing narrowly behind Saint Francis University (3.479) for the NEC Institutional Academic Award. The Sharks' second-place finish represented a one spot jump over the 2020-21 result.
LIU has been piling up impressive academic awards in recent weeks.
On Tuesday, men's soccer goalkeeper Demetri Skoumbakis, track and field sprinter Laurie Hauet, women's basketball guard Shyla Sanford and epée fencer Grace Scura all earned NEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards after graduating with 4.0 GPAs.
Meanwhile, six LIU Athletics teams produced perfect scores from the NCAA in the organization's recently released Academic Progress Rates report. Baseball, men's ice hockey, men's swimming and diving, women's golf, women's tennis and women's volleyball all earned perfect 1000 APR scores.
