FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A road trip is sweeter when it comes with a win.
LIU men's lacrosse closed out the regular season with a 15-10 victory over Sacred Heart on Saturday. The Sharks head into the postseason with a 7-7 record and 4-3 in conference play.
With today's result, LIU has finished above .500 against Northeast Conference for the second straight year.
"We don't ever take winning on the road for granted, especially a same day trip and on their senior day," head coach
Eric Wolf said. "I'm proud of the boys for finding a way to win."
The Pioneers took the first lead at the 11:29 mark, but the Sharks would respond and hold the lead the remainder of the afternoon.
Richie LaCalandra piled up seven assists on six different scorers. His assist total breaks his previous career high of six last week against Hobart.
Marcin Maleski and LaCalandra each added three goals. Maleski scored two of his three to close the third that gave LIU its largest lead at six.
The Sharks had success from
Justin Joseph who won 18 of his 28, his highest of the season.
Will Mark picked up his seventh win in cage with 10 saves.
LIU will take on the No. 1 seed Saint Joseph's in the 2022 NEC Men's Lacrosse Championship on Thursday, May 5, at 1 p.m. as the No. 4 seed.
"Playing lacrosse in the month of May isn't promised, it's earned and our team has earned the right to continue on together," Wolf said.
