Men's Tennis Concludes Inaugural Campaign Against Bryant in NEC Semi-Finals

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The LIU men's tennis team concluded their inaugural season with a 4-0 loss against No. 1 seeded Bryant in the NEC Tournament Semi-Finals. The Sharks finish the year at 14-10 and 5-3 in NEC play.
 
"We looked Bryant in the eyes and had very close sets across the board in doubles and singles," said associate head coach Pavlos Stephanides. "However, we were not able to capitalize on the break point and deuce point chances we had. I cannot take anything away from the effort the guys put in today and throughout the season. As a brand new team I have to say how fortunate we have been with the players we have brought in and the improvements they all made," he continued. "This was a very successful season for our inaugural men's tennis program! A special shout out to Ben [Brandherm], our captain and natural leader, and Vikas [Dalal] our undefeated walk on, who helped establish this amazing team culture. They will be missed, but they will always be a part of our tennis family as alumni."

"We are looking forward to welcoming the new members of our team and competing in the upcoming fall tournament season," Stephanides added.

SHARK BITES
  • Bryant took wins on doubles courts one and two to lead the match 1-0 heading into singles play.
  • The Bulldogs would take three straight singles wins on courts three, five, and two to win the match 4-0 over the Sharks and claim their spot in the NEC Championship match.
  • Akhilendran Indrabalan and Ben Brandherm each played tight first sets, each falling 7-6 in the first set before the match was called and play was finished.
  • The Sharks finished their first season in fourth place, a spot ahead of where they were projected at the start of the season in fifth.
