Box Score 2 MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – Saturday saw day three action for the LIU softball team at the Spring Games where the team faced off against two more opponents and split their results for the day, winning their game over Radford 6-4, and falling 4-2 to Georgetown.
SHARK BITES – LIU 6, Radford 4
- The Highlanders struck early, scoring all four of their runs in the first inning before the Sharks struck back in the bottom of the second, taking the lead when they scored five runs of their own to lead 5-4. It wasn't until the fifth when LIU crossed the plate again to give them an insurance run that the final tally of 6-4 was reached.
- In the first, Radford scored four runs off of two hits to grab the early lead.
- In the bottom of the second the Sharks hit the stride. Alyssa Polemeni walked to start off, followed by Gabby Padilla getting to first on a fielding error by third base. With Polemeni on second and Padilla on first, Katie Hinkle singled, Padilla was on second with Polemeni on third.
- Kristen Blanchard grounded out to short stop, but Hinkle made it to second, and Padilla made it to third while Polemeni score. Camryn Lyman made it to first on an error that also allowed Hinkle and Padilla to score. to score and the Sharks were up coming back, 4-3.
- The bottom of the second continued with Kiana Cisneros singling and pushing Lyman to second base. Cisneros and Lyman scored when Ciara Granado hit a double to give the Sharks the 5-4 lead off of three hits and two errors.
- In the bottom of the fifth the final run of the game was scored when Bermea singled and got to second on a ground-out ball. When Padilla singled, Bermea reached third and was able to score on a throwing error to put the final tally at 6-4.
- Zoe Estoppey got the win on the mound for the Sharks.
SHARK BITES – Georgetown 4, LIU 2
- Georgetown struck first in the bottom of the first to grab two runs and the 2-0 lead before LIU got one back in the top of the second. Georgetown grabbed another two in the bottom of the third to lead 4-1. The Sharks would get another back in the top of the fifth, but would fall 4-2 to the Hoyas.
- The Hoyas took two runs off of two hits in the bottom of the first.
- In the top of the second, LIU got one run on three hits starting when Ciara Granado singled and advanced to second on a ground out by Gabby Padilla. Angelina Reno doubled to drive in Granado and the Sharks were on the board 2-1.
- Georgetown kept swinging though, and in the bottom of the third took two more runs on four hits to take a 4-1 lead.
- Kristen Blanchard started the fifth inning off with a single before Alyssa Polemeni walked and pushed Blanchard to second. When Kiana Cisneros grounded out, Blanchard made it to third before Ryleigh Bermea flied out to left field but earned an RBI when Blanchard scored. Neither team would score again for the rest of the game and the Sharks would fall 4-2.
- Sophomore Alyssa O'Donnell got the loss on the mound.
The Sharks will return to Spring Games action on Tuesday, March 8 when they take on Central Michigan University in a double header, starting at 12 p.m.
