LOWELL, Mass. – The LIU men's ice hockey team took on No. 16 UMass Lowell on Friday night in Massachusetts and despite opening the scoring, fell 5-1 to the River Hawks.

• LIU got the only goal of the first period, but the River Hawks fought back and scored three times late in the second period, and twice later in the third to take the game 5-1.
• The Sharks struck first just eight minutes into the game when off a Nolan Welsh assist, PJ Marrocco hit an even strength goal to go up on the River Hawks 1-0.
• UMass Lowell came back in the middle of the second on an even strength goal to tie the game 1-1. With five minutes left to play in the period, the River Hawks went up with one power play goal and then another just a minute later to take quickly alter the score to 3-1 to end the second period.
• In the final five minutes of the game, UMass Lowell added two more for insurance to claim the match 5-1 over the visiting Sharks.
• Up next, the Sharks head up to Alaska to take on the Nanooks of Alaska University Fairbanks on Friday, March 4 at 11 p.m.
