SHARKS WIN! Men's Hockey Notches 4-1 Victory at Union

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The LIU men's ice hockey won its fourth straight game Tuesday night on the road, beating Union 4-1. With the win, the Sharks improve to 8-14-3 on the season.

  • Senior Jordan Timmons got the scoring started for the Sharks, netting his first goal of the season in the first period on a power play. He scored with help from Spencer Cox and Tyler Welsh, putting LIU up, 1-0 at 8:58.
  • Seven minutes later, senior Billy Jerry scored what would be the eventual-game winner, an even strength goal that would put LIU up, 2-0. Carter Ekberg and Gustav Muller each had assists on the tally.
  • Union scored a power play goal early in the second, but would get no closer.
  • Freshman Isaiah Fox scored a goal near the end of the second, with help from Dylan Schuett and Marty Westhaver, putting the Sharks up, 3-1.
  • Senior Tyler Welsh added a late goal in the final two minutes, scoring on an empty net to make it 4-1 for LIU. Cox and Nolan Welsh assisted on the final goal of the game.
  • Defensively, Cox had three blocks in addition to his two assists. Carson Musser also had three blocks for the Sharks.
  • Senior goalie Vincent Purpura made 19 saves in net for LIU in the win.
  • Up next, the Sharks continue a road swing through the north, heading to Amherst, Massachusetts to take on UMass, February 4 and 5 at the Mullins Center.
