OVERPECK, N.J. — The LIU rowing teams continue to experience success in the early stages of the program.
Competing for only the second time in the program's existence, the Sharks finished in first place in all three races in which they competed at the Overpeck Fall Classic — the women's collegiate novice 8+, women's collegiate novice 4+ and men's collegiate novice 4+.
The men's team of Aaron Munford,
Sean Barry,
Daniel Tellerman,
Matthew Ciniglio and coxswain
Shervin Keypour produced a time of 13:39.0 to top a pair of entries from Stony Brook.
In the women's 4+, a pair of teams from LIU topped a Stony Brook entry.
The winning team of
Kylee Gross,
Leah Bowlby,
Kathrine Hansen,
Emily Hughes and coxswain
Lily Fisher finished in 14:17.8. They were followed in second by LIU's Isabella Kolstad Khan, Cassidy Heister,
Sarah Ronessi,
Kara de Bruin and
Melanie Campos in 15:11.1.
The uncontested 8+ race saw the Sharks finishing in 13:35.2 with a team of Gross, Hughes, Hansen, Bowlby, Kolstad Khan, Heister, Ronessi and de Bruin.
"I'm really excited with the start our program has had," coach
Jaclyn Smith said. "It's one thing to go to these races to gain experience for a new program. It's a whole other thing to go and to be able to compete and walk away with not only that experience, but also medals and great races under our belts.
"We now have two weeks off before back-to-back weekends to end off our first fall season. The coaches are excited to get some hard training in these next few weeks to prepare for the remainder of our season."
