Flowers Named NEC MBB Co-Player of the Week

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - LIU men's basketball senior Ty Flowers was named the Northeast Conference Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Flowers put together one of the best two-game stretches in recent NEC memory to open league play last week. The graduate student stuffed the stat sheet to the tune of 29.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game. He shot 53.7 percent from the floor and sank 8-17 from outside the arc, a 47.1 percent conversion rate. Flowers accounted for over 55 percent of his team's scoring output on Wednesday when he exploded for a career-high 36 points in a 69-65 point setback at SHU. He converted 6-10 from three-point range, added eight boards and scored 10 points in the final three minutes to help the Sharks trim a 10-point deficit to two in the final seconds. Flowers, who hails from Waterbury, CT, went on to score a game-high 23 points to go along with five rebounds, four assists and four steals and helped spark a late rally that fell just short during a five-point loss at Merrimack on Friday. Flowers ranks third in the NEC in scoring (17.4), eighth in rebounding (6.6), 11th in assists (2.7), eighth in steals (1.7), fourth in blocks (1.5), first in made three-pointers (3.0) and ninth in three-point accuracy (.391).

Up next, the Sharks host Mount St. Mary's, Thursday, January 6 at 7 p.m.
