In order to comply with NY Executive Order No. 225 (
"Key to NYC"), the three Northeast Conference members with campuses located in New York City (LIU, St. Francis Brooklyn, Wagner) have communicated that unvaccinated individuals ages 12 and older are prohibited from entering indoor gym and fitness center facilities, including but not limited to pools, gymnasiums, and weight rooms.
This prohibition will apply to home and visiting students, employees, Tier 1 individuals, officials, support staff and fans that intend to participate or attend indoor athletic events at LIU's Brooklyn and Post campuses, St. Francis College (SFC) and Wagner.
As noted previously, the NEC COVID policy is the minimum standard that NEC member institutions must meet. However, if local and/or state guidelines exceed the NEC minimums, those local and/or state guidelines will supersede the NEC guidelines. This is the case with the adoption of NYC EO225 which prohibits unvaccinated individuals from entering indoor gym and fitness center facilities within the confines of New York City.
The following notes outline how NYC EO225 applies at events hosted by LIU, SFC and Wagner:
- Only those individuals with proof of vaccination will be permitted to attend and/or participate in indoor athletic events. (Attendees under 12 must be with a vaccinated adult. All spectators are required to wear masks at all times.)
- As outlined in NYC EO225, individuals that provide proof of receiving at least one dose of the vaccine will be permitted to attend and/or participate in indoor athletic events.
- Individuals within 90 days of COVID infection are not considered vaccinated and as such would still be prevented from attending and/or participating in indoor athletic events without having received at least one dose of the vaccine.
- NYC EO225 prevents unvaccinated individuals (in this case, defined as those who have not received at least one dose of the vaccine) who received an exemption through their own institution from attending or participating in indoor athletic events, even if those individuals are meeting the NEC testing policy for unvaccinated individuals.
- Visiting teams may not travel their unvaccinated individuals to indoor events held at LIU's Brooklyn and Post campuses, SFC or Wagner even if those individuals will not compete (e.g., they cannot serve as coaches, managers, support staff).
- NYC EO225 does not apply to events held outdoors; as such, unvaccinated individuals are permitted to travel and participate in athletic competition held outdoors.Depending on the home institution's policy, those unvaccinated individuals may also be permitted to utilize indoor locker room and bathroom facilities. We encourage teams traveling with outdoor sport unvaccinated individuals to communicate with the LIU, SFC and Wagner relative to use of indoor facilities.
