BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – LIU men's soccer freshman Matthias Heiland was named the Northeast Conference's Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the league office Tuesday.
 
Heiland was active in the offensive end during both of his appearances, helping LIU earn a pair of results last week. The first-year Shark, who managed three shots during each outing, recorded his first career goal in a victory over Atlantic-10 member La Salle. Heiland came off the bench against the Explorers, breaking a 2-2 tie in the 60th minute by finishing off a beautiful pass from Emil Jaaskelainen. The German-born midfielder earned a start against Ivy League member Columbia. He logged 86 minutes in the scoreless stalemate that extended LIU's unbeaten streak to three matches.
