FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The LIU field hockey team extended its win streak to three straight on the road Monday afternoon, shutting out Sacred Heart, 2-0. With the win, LIU is now 3-1 in Northeast Conference action.
LIU dominated throughout the game, outshooting Sacred Heart, 17-7 over four periods, including a 9-2 advantage in penalty corners. But the Sharks wouldn't get on the board until the fourth quarter.
The SHU keeper would make saves on shots by
Sammy Bell and
Sol Espona, before the Sharks would score. Espona scored just over ten minute into the period, to put LIU up, 1-0. And a minute and a half later, sophomore
Alexis Ruiz would score on a penalty corner, with an assist from Bell, to make it 2-0 LIU.
Senior
Rachel Vellis made four saves in net to get the shutout win for the Sharks.
