Women’s Soccer Battles CCSU in NEC Title Game

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The LIU women's soccer team dropped its first game of the 2020-21 season on the road Friday, falling to Central Connecticut State in the Northeast Conference championship, 4-0. With the loss, the Sharks finish the season with a 3-1-1 record, while CCSU will advance to the NCAA tournament with a 7-0 record.
 
LIU's defense shut down the high-powered offense of the Blue Devils in the first half, holding CCSU to just four shots. Keeper Kayla DeTreux had one save for the Sharks in the first half.
 
In the second half, the Blue Devils increased the offensive pressure, out-shooting LIU 11-1. Keeper Lydia Fraga Cordoba had three saves to limit the scoring, but CCSU would score three goals to take the win by a final score of 4-0.
 
Junior defender Mary Twetten was named to the NEC Championship All-Tournament team for her play in the contest.
