BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU men's soccer team took top-seeded St. Francis Brooklyn as far as they could Friday afternoon in the Northeast Conference Championship game at Brooklyn Bridge Park, eventually falling in a penalty shootout.
The two teams battled to a 0-0 tie in two overtimes, and had to go to a shootout to determine the winner. Eight players had to take kicks from each team before the game was resolved, with SFBK winning the NEC title by a 6-5 advantage.
LIU's defense was strong in the game, as the Terriers pushed the pressure throughout. SFBK outshot the Sharks, 24-6.

Vasilios Brisnovalis all registered shots for the Sharks in the game.
Sophomore keeper
Demetri Skoumbakis was locked down in the net, making six incredible saves to preserve the shutout and force the extra time. He also made three straight saves in the penalty shootout, giving the Sharks a shot at the win.
Junior defender
Fridtjof Andberg was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Sharks.
The Sharks conclude the season with a 3-1-4 overall record, 3-1-3 in the NEC.
