Women’s Basketball Blasts Bryant, 83-42 in Home Finale

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU women's basketball team finished the 2020-21 regular season with an emphatic home win Monday, beating Bryant, 83-42. Every Shark scored in the total team win, as LIU won their fourth straight game to finish the season 7-11.

  • Prior to the game, LIU honored seniors Mia Perkins and Zhané Williams, who were playing in their last game at home.
  • The Sharks dominated the Bulldogs from the start, leading wire-to-wire in the contest. Perkins contributed early on, scoring on a free throw and a layup to put LIU up, 3-0.
  • LIU only built on the lead from there, and thanks to a three from freshman Dallas Carter, led at the end of the first period, 17-5.
  • The second period saw the biggest disparity in points, as LIU would outscore Bryant, 20-9 over ten minutes, building the lead to 37-14 at the halftime break.
  • The Sharks kept the pressure on in the second half, limiting Bryant's attempts at scoring, and forcing a ton of Bulldog turnovers.
  • In the game, the Sharks forced Bryant into 29 turnovers, 19 of which were LIU steals. And the Sharks scored 30 of their points off of those turnovers.
  • LIU also had 25 assists as a team.
  • The strongest shooting came for LIU in the fourth quarter, when the team shot 66.7 percent from the field, including late buckets from Dyamond Butler-Worley, Alexis Gray and LaChazity Shaver.
  • In the end, LIU took the win, 83-42, the second highest point total in the Rene Haynes era, and one of the biggest wins over an NEC team in recent memory.
  • Juniors Brandy Thomas and Ryan Weise led the Sharks with 14 points each. Thomas went 6-for-9 from the field, while Weise was 4-for-6 from three-point range.
  • Freshman Dallas Carter added nine points, while seniors Zhané Williams and Mia Perkins added eight and seven points respectively.
  • Junior Kiara Bell had 10 rebounds to lead LIU, while sophomore Kennedy Taylor had a team high five assists and three steals to go with her seven points.
  • With the win, LIU finishes the season on a four game win streak, and a 7-11 NEC record.
