PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The LIU men's hockey team fell on the road Thursday evening to No. 19 nationally-ranked Robert Morris, 4-1. The Sharks' lone goal was scored by freshman
Jack Quinn, his first collegiate goal.
LIU would hold RMU scorless for much of the first period, only letting one goal in in the final 90 seconds, to make it 1-0 after one. Quinn, who has seen action in all nine games for the Shark, scored his first collegiate tally in the second period to even it up. Just under six minutes into the period, Quinn would score an unassisted goal to knot it up, 1-1.
But the Colonials would score again five minutes later, to go up 2-1, and added two more in the third period to clinch the 4-1 victory.
LIU and RMU each had 29 shots on goal in the contest, while LIU outblocked the Colonials, 26-14.
Junior
Vincent Purpura would make 25 saves in net for the Sharks. Sophomore
Nolan McElhaney led LIU with 10 shots, four of which were on net, and two blocked shots on defense. Senior
Mat Harris had a team-high four blocked shots for the Sharks.
Up next, LIU gets another shot at RMU, as the two teams will face off, Friday, February 5 at 3 p.m. in Clearview Arena.
