Men’s Ice Hockey Takes on #17 Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The LIU men's hockey team matched Ohio State for two shutout periods at Value City Arena Friday night, but a strong third period from the Buckeyes catapulted the #17 nationally-ranked home team to a 6-0 win.

SHARK BITES
  • Goalie Vincent Purpura was a wall for the first two periods, shutting out the Buckeyes' offense. He finished the night with 38 saves.
  • OSU outshot LIU in the game 44-15, but wouldn't get on the board until the third period. The Sharks shut out the home team for 42 minutes.
  • The Buckeyes scored three minutes into the third. LIU had a chance right after the home team scored, but the goal was called back by the refs.
  • OSU would score once again 90 seconds later, and it was though a dam burst; the home team would score four more goals over the next 15 minutes, in one of the more impressive offensive outbursts for the Buckeyes. The six goals match a season high for Ohio State against D1 opponents.
  • PJ Marrocco led the offensive effort with five shots for the Sharks.
  • Carson Musser had a big game defensively, blocking nine shots for the Sharks.
  • LIU's defense did well against the power play, killing five of the six they faced.
  • Up next, the Sharks have a rematch against #17 Ohio State, taking on the Buckeyes in the New Year. LIU and OSU will face off Saturday, January 1 at 3 p.m.
