BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - LIU men's soccer sophomore
Emil Jaaskelainen was named the Northeast Conference's Player of the Week for the second-straight week, it was announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon. The forward shared the honor with two other players from St. Francis Brooklyn and Saint Francis U., in the league's first-ever Tri-Player of the Week honors, as all three players had hat tricks in NEC games this weekend.
Jaaskelainen has been feasting while his team rides an eight-match unbeaten streak. The reigning NEC Rookie of the Year recorded a hat trick in last week's win over Howard to extend his goal-scoring streak to three straight games. Powering the Sharks to five wins in a row, he has tickled the twine in four of his last five outings. Jaaskelainen scored three unanswered goals after the visiting Bison took an early 1-0 lead on Sunday. The British-born forward tied the game in the 29th minute and struck again with the go-ahead goal 6:02 later. He added a second-half insurance goal in the 63rd minute of the 3-1 triumph.
Up next, the Sharks host Merrimack, Thursday, October 14 at 2 p.m.
