Notes on the Sharks
The Sharks continued to make history on Wednesday, February 19 when they defeated Saint Michael's, 7-0 in the NEWHA First Round game, for the first playoff win in program history. Six different players scored on Wednesday, as
Molly Meyers led the way with two goals and an assist.
Carrigan Umpherville,
Alva Johnsson,
Matilda af Bjur,
Linn Thomsen and
Stella Scott all scored a goal against the Purple Knights. Thomsen's goal was the first of her career, and she also finished with an assist. Umpherville,
Abby Latorella,
Morgan Schauer, and
Lauren Spino all finished with an assist.
Kenzie Harmison made 17 saves, and did not allow a goal for her second shutout of the season. Harmison has 313 saves this season a .929 save percentage. Umpherville leads the team with 18 goals, and is tied for second with 12 assists for a team-high 30 points. Johnsson has 12 goals with six assists for 18 points. af Bjur and Latorella both have 10 goals each, while af Bjur leads the team with 14 assists.
Scouting the Pioneers
The 2019-20 NEWHA Regular Season champions, Sacred Heart come into the semifinal matchup on a 13-game win streak. The Pioneers closed out the regular season last weekend with a 4-1 victory over Saint Michael's. The Pioneers scored once in the second period and three times in the third to seal the win over the Purple Knights. Jayne Lewis, Kennedy Spiering, Kelly Solak, and Victoria Grimmer all scored for the Pioneers. Frankie Sanchez made 22 saves in net for her 19
th win of the season. Lewis is the leading scorer for Sacred Heart as she has 22 goals and 13 assists for 35 points. She also moved into first place for all-time career points in program history with 140. Maddie Bishop leads the team with 19 assists, and she also has 11 goals for 30 points. Sanchez has 785 saves this season and a .914 save percentage.
