Four Members of Women's Ice Hockey Earn All-NEWHA Honors

BROOKVILLE, N.Y.- The New England Women's Hockey Alliance announced the All-NEWHA teams on Wednesday afternoon, and four members of the Long Island University women's ice hockey team were recognized. Carrigan Umpherville was named to the All-NEWHA second team, Matilda af Bjur and Paula Bergström were named to the NEWHA All-rookie team, and Megan Bouveur was named to the NEWHA All-Sportswomanship team.
 
Earning a spot on the All-NEWHA second team, Carrigan Umpherville has played in 28 games this season, and leads the team in scoring with 17 goals and 28 points. She also had 11 assists, which is third most on the team. She scored the first goal in program history against UConn on October 5. She scored her first career hat trick against Franklin Pierce, and has had seven multi-point games this season. She also has a team-best three game-winning goals, which is tied for second in the NEWHA. Umpherville takes an average of 3.07 shots per game, and has a plus four overall and plus 13 in NEWHA play. She is third in the NEWHA in point scoring with 1.32 points per game. Umpherville leads the conference in freshman scoring.
 
Matilda af Bjur, named to the All-rookie team, has played in all 29 games this season, and leads the team with 14 assists. She has also scored nine times for a total of 23 points, which is second most on the team. af Bjur is second in the NEWHA in freshman scoring, and is tied for fourth in point scoring. af Bjur also leads the team with four power play goals this season, and has two game-winning goals. She has a plus 11 in NEWHA games, and has a .502 faceoff winning percentage, winning a team-best 284 faceoffs. She has an average of 3.11 shots per game. af Bjur has 25 blocked shots with a season-high six against RIT. She has five multi-point games this season.
 
Also earning a spot on the All-rookie team, Paula Bergström has played in 25 games in the inaugural season, and 16 in NEWHA play. This season Bergrström has 16 points behind four goals and 12 assists, which is tied for second on the team, and fifth in the NEWHA in defensemen scoring. She takes and average of 2.47 shots per game, and she scored one game-winning goal, which came in the program's first-ever win over Saint Michael's. Bergström has 25 blocked shots this season, with a season-high six against UConn. She also has a plus seven in NEWHA play. She was named NEWHA Rookie of the Week once this season on November 19 after she scored a goal and had two assists against Post.
 
Rounding out the All-NEWHA honors is Megan Bouveur who was named to the All-sportswomanship team. Bouveur has played in all 29 games this season, including all 20 NEWHA games. She has scored nine goals, eight of which coming in conference play, and is tied for second with 12 assists. She has a total of 20 points this season, which is third on the team. Bouveur had a career-high four assists and five points against Franklin Pierce. She has scored two power play goals and one game-winning goal. Bouveur has a .498 faceoff winning percentage, and has won 257 faceoffs. She takes an average of two shots per game. She has a plus 11 in NEWHA play. Bouveur has 15 blocked shots this season, including a season-best three against RIT.
 
The Sharks continue the inaugural season when they host Saint Michael's in the NEWHA First Round game on Wednesday, February 19 at Iceworks in Syosset. Puck drop against the Purple Knights is set for 1:05 p.m.
