Women's Ice Hockey Travels to Saint Anselm for Final Regular Season Series

BROOKVILLE, N.Y.- The Long Island University women's ice hockey team will conclude the inaugural regular season this weekend with a two-game series in Manchester, N.H. to take on New England Women's Hockey Alliance foe Saint Anselm.

Notes on the Sharks
The Sharks went 1-1 last weekend against NEWHA opponent Franklin Pierce. In the opening game of the series the Sharks took down the Ravens, 7-4. Carrigan Umpherville scored three goals for her first career hat trick. Megan Bouvuer finished with a career-high five points behind four assists and one goal. She also closed out the day with a plus four. Abby Latorella scored twice and Stella Scott scored once. Scott scored for the Sharks again on Saturday, marking the second game in a row she finished with a goal. The Ravens tied the game and then took advantage of a major penalty to take a two goal lead they would hold onto for the remainder of the game. Mia McLeod made 66 saves over the two games against the Ravens last week. She now has 494 saves and is sporting a .910 save percentage this season. Umpherville leads the team with 15 goals. She also has 10 assists for a team-best 25 points. Bouvuer and Matilda af Bjur lead the team with 12 assists each. Latorella and Alva Johnsson are tied for second on the team with 10 goals each.
 
Scouting the Hawks
The Saint Anselm Hawks are looking to bounce back after dropping two games to Sacred Heart last weekend. Mackenzie Kaasa scored her first goal of the season to put the Hawks on the board early in the first game against the Pioneers. Kaley Campbell scored the lone goal for the Hawks in the second game against the Sacred Heart. Michaela Kane made 57 saves in net for the Hawks over the two games against Sacred Heart. She now has 345 saves this season and moved into fifth all time in saves after Friday's game. Katy Meehan leads the team with 13 goals. Meehan also has nine assists for 22 points. Kelly Golini has a team-high 12 assists to go along with eight goals this season.
 
Last Time Against the Hawks
The Sharks and the Hawks squared off for the first time this season on January 10 and 11. The Hawks outlasted the Sharks in both games, winning by a score of 4-2 in both matchups. af Bjur scored twice in the series while Scott and Johnsson also scored once against the Hawks. Saint Anselm is currently in third in the NEWHA standings with 21 points, while LIU is right behind them in fourth with 20 points.

Up Next
The Sharks will likely earn the third or fourth seed for the NEWHA Tournament after this weekend, and will host a first-round game, next Wednesday February 19 at 1:05 p.m. at Iceworks in Syosset, N.Y. The first and second seeds will get a bye and will play in the semifinals next Saturday. The third seeded team will host the sixth seeded team and the fourth seeded team will host the fifth seed.
