BROOKVILLE, N.Y.- New England Women's Hockey Alliance play continues for the Long Island University women's ice hockey team this weekend as the Sharks take on second place Sacred Heart University in a two-game, home and home series on Friday, January 24 and Saturday, January 25. The Sharks will be on the road for the first game of the weekend, and will close out the series against the Pioneers at home on Saturday at Iceworks.

NOTES ON THE SHARKS
The Sharks are looking to carry the momentum from a series sweep over Saint Michael's last weekend into the matchup with the Pioneers this weekend. The Sharks' special teams exploded in the first game against Saint Michael's last week as the team scored five power play goals and one short-handed goal in a 7-3 win.
Carrigan Umpherville scored twice, while
Molly Meyers, Megan Bouvuer,
Matilda af Bjur,
Alva Johnsson and
Abby Latorella also scored.
Paula Bergström and
Lauren Spino finished the game with three assists each, which was Spino's first career multi-point game.
Ava Bailey earned her first career win in net on Friday after finishing with 27 saves. The Sharks defeated the Purple Knights, 2-0 on Saturday night for their second series sweep of the season. Bouveur scored the game-winning goal midway through the second, and
Saige McKay added to the lead just two minutes later.
Mia McLeod earned her first career shutout in net for the Sharks behind 17 saves.
Umpherville leads the team with nine goals this season and has nine assists for a team-high 18 points. af Bjur and Johnsson both have eight goals on the year while af Bjur has nine assists and Johnsson has four. Bouveur and Latorella both have six goals this season, while Bergrström leads the team with 11 assists.
Kenzie Harmison leads the team with a .923 save percentage and has 203 saves. McLeod has 349 saves and is sporting a .902 save percentage while Bailey has 187 saves and a .862 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
The Sacred Heart University Pioneers come into this weekend's matchup in second place in the NEWHA with a 9-2 conference record. The Pioneers defeated Post last weekend 3-2. Maddie Bishop led the way as she scored a goal and added an assist. Anna Klein and Nicole Guidi both scored power play goals for the Pioneers. Frankie Sanchez earned her 10
th win of the season in net after making 16 saves off the 18 shots faced. She has 590 saves this season and a .898 save percentage. Jayne Lewis leads the team with 14 goals on the year and also has nine assists for a team-high 23 points. Klein has 10 goals this year and seven assists for 17 points. Maddie Bishop leads the team with 14 assists and also has eight goals for 22 points.

The Sharks will head back to the Sports Center of Connecticut next Friday, January 31 to take on Post University at 3:00 p.m. LIU will then head back home to Northwell Health Ice Center on Saturday, February 1 to host Post in the final home game of the regular season.
