BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Long Island University men's basketball team hosts two of the toughest teams in the Northeast Conference this weekend, welcoming the Pennsylvania contingent of the NEC to the Steinberg Wellness Center. First up is perennial NEC powerhouse Saint Francis U., Thursday, January 23 at 7 p.m.
 
SHARK BITES
  • LIU will be looking to bounce back from a tough ending to a three-game road trip. The Sharks had their four-game NEC win streak snapped Saturday afternoon at Wagner, as the Seahawks beat the Sharks, 72-64. Wagner took the lead 17 seconds into the game at the Spiro Sports Center, and LIU (9-10, 4-2 NEC) would trail for the rest of the contest, despite five players scoring in double digits.
  • Senior Jashaun Agosto led scoring with 16 points, as he went 5-for-9 from the field and 4-for-6 from three-point range.
  • Junior Ty Flowers had his ninth double double of the season, with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Senior Raiquan Clark had 11 points and six rebounds, while sophomores Virshon Cotton and Jermaine Jackson Jr. each had 10 points in the loss.
  • Saint Francis U., who advanced to the NEC championship game last year, comes to Brooklyn with a12-6 overall record, and 5-2 in the NEC.
  • The Red Flash are led by the senior back court duo of Isaiah Blackmon and Keith Braxton, who average 17.4 ppg and 16.4 ppg respectively. The duo also combines for 13.0 rebounds per game, and lead the team as a duo in both steals (48 total) and assists. Sophomore forward Myles Thompson (10.6 ppg, 5.1 rpg) and sophomore combo guard Tyler Stewart (10.1 ppg) round out the team's top contributors.
  • The all time series between the two teams is all locked up, 37-37. The Red Flash won two of the three matchups last season, including beating LIU in the NEC semifinal, 72-64.
  • Up next, the Sharks host Robert Morris, Saturday, January 25 at 4:30 p.m.
