BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Long Island University men's soccer team looks to continue its hot start to the season when it takes on Saint Joseph's University on Saturday, September 7 at 8 p.m. at the Hofstra University Soccer Stadium in Hempstead, New York.
Notes on the Sharks
The Sharks have had an impressive start to the season, first coming from behind to defeat Old Dominon University 2-1 on Friday, August 30 at the ODU Sports Deck. Freshman
Papa Ndoye scored the match-winning goal in the 86
th minute after receiving an assist from graduate student

LIU then defeated Virginia Commonwealth University 1-0 at Sports Backers Stadium on Monday, September 2 in a match where junior
Chris Capaldo found the back of the net in the 56
th minute to give LIU the advantage. Senior
Matias Pesallaccia was also sensational in goal, recording a shutout with two saves while freshman
Demetri Skoumbakis recorded the first save of his college career.
On the season, Capaldo leads LIU with three points, one goal and one assist. Freshman
Papa Ndoye and sophomore
Athanasios Coutroumpas both have two points and one goal while graduate student Stefan Faistenauaer has one point and one assist.
Pesallacia has tallied eight saves and has a .889 save percentage along with a 0.60 goal against average.
Capaldo Honored as NEC Player of the Week
After tallying three points with one goal and one assist last week, the Northeast Conference (NEC) honored Capaldo as its Player of the Week Wednesday. Along with his goal against VCU, Capaldo also had an assist in the win over ODU.
Scouting Saint Joseph's
The Hawks currently have a 0-2 record on the season, most recently falling to Fairfield University 1-0 in overtime on Wednesday, September 4. In their other match, the Hawks fell 2-1 to Saint Peter's University on Friday, August 30 at Sweeney Field.
Senior Leon Maric leads Saint Joseph's with two points and one goal while senior midfielder Ritchie Barry has one point and one assist, as does sophomore Garrett Lyons.
Sophomore Joseph Boehm has started both matches in goal for the Hawks. He has tallied 22 saves, a 1.48 goal against average and a .880 save percentage.
The Hawks were selected eighth in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll and return 17 from last season's squad along with nine starters. Maric and Ritchie Barry were named to the Preseason A-10 All-Conference team.
