MONTREAL, Quebec- Renee Hoffmann scored late in the third period as the Long Island University women's ice hockey team fell in exhibition play against McGill, 6-1, in the first game of the Theresa Humes Invitational. McGill came into Saturday's matchup as the sixth ranked team in Canada.
McGill took an early lead within the first minute of the game. The Martlets would score three more times throughout the first period to take a 4-0 lead.
The Sharks came out of the locker room stronger for the second period, and held the Martlets scoreless to keep the score 4-0 at the end of the second. Through the first two periods, the Sharks had 10 shots compared to McGill's 28.
McGill was able to score two more times in the third period. Hoffmann would get the Sharks on the board after tapping in a pass from
Issy Lebrun.
Overall the Sharks took 16 shots on goal.
Mia McLeod played in net and finished the day with 45 saves after facing 51 shots.
The Sharks close out the Theresa Humes Invitational tomorrow, December 29, when they face the number one team in Canada, host Concordia at 5:00 p.m.
