BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Long Island University men's basketball team will host local rival Saint Peter's at the home of the NBA's Brooklyn Nets Sunday, as the two teams will face off at the Barclays Center. Tip-off is at 12 p.m.
SHARK BITES
- LIU is coming off of a huge win, having beaten Delaware in overtime at home Friday night, 82-75. LIU (4-7) handed the Blue Hens just their third loss of the season, behind a 24-point effort from senior Raiquan Clark.
- Four Sharks finished in double digits, led by Clark, who had 24 points (shooting 11-18 from the field), nine rebounds and four steals. Senior Julian Batts had a season-high 19 points, along with a team-high seven assists and six rebounds.
- Junior Ty Flowers had 15 points, five of which came in overtime as the deciding points in favor of the Sharks. He also had eight rebounds and three steals. And sophomore Virshon Cotton chipped in 10 points, as well as four assists, three rebounds and three steals.
- LIU out-rebounded Delaware, 37-35. It was just the second time this season that the Sharks outrebounded an opponent.
- Saint Peter's comes into Sunday's matchup with a 2-5 record. The Peacocks struggled against Northeast Conference teams early in the semester, falling to Bryant (69-44) and Wagner (81-77 OT), but have bounced back recently, notching wins over St. Francis Brooklyn (67-59) and Fairleigh Dickinson (86-70).
LIU AT BARCLAYS
- The Sharks will play one game this year at the home of the NBA's Brooklyn Nets, as a part of LIU's continuing relationship with Barclays Center.
- LIU will host Saint Peter's, Sunday, December 22 at 12 p.m.
- LIU is 8-7 all-time at the arena, most recently having beaten Mount St. Mary's, 77-62, Thursday, February 7, 2019.
- Saint Peter's was the second team ever to play LIU at the Barclays Center, back when the building opened in 2013. The Blackbirds won that game, 87-80.
- Most of the games LIU has played down the street have been close ones: of the 14 games played there over the past five seasons, nine have been decided by a nine-point difference or less, including six games with a gap of four points or fewer.
- Prior to last season, the last time LIU won at Barclays was the team's huge 74-73 win over BIG EAST opponent St. John's in December of 2016.
