Women's Ice Hockey Continues NEWHA Play with Two Games Against Sacred Heart

BROOKVILLE, N.Y.- The Long Island University women's ice hockey team continues New England Women's Hockey Alliance play with a two-game weekend against the Sacred Heart Pioneers. The first game against the Pioneers will be on Friday, November 8 at the Sports Center of Connecticut at 4:00 p.m. The Sharks will return home to close out the weekend against Sacred Heart on Saturday, November 9 at the Northwell Health Ice Center starting at 4:15 p.m.

NOTES ON THE SHARKS
The Sharks earned their first win in program history on Friday against Saint Michael's, defeating the Purple Knights 5-2, which is the most goals scored in program history. Five different players scored, including Matilda af Bjur, Alva Johnsson, and Elissa Taylor who all net their first career goals. Paula Bergström and Carrigan Umpherville also scored in the victory. Umpherville chipped in two assists and Taylor, Johnsson, af Bjur, Bergström, Lauren Spino, Morgan Schauer, and Issy Lebrun all finished with an assist. Kenzie Harmison earned the victory in net for the Sharks. She finished the game with 23 saves and only two goals allowed, the least amount of goals allowed all season.
The Sharks are looking to bounce back from a 4-1 loss in the second game against Saint Michael's on Saturday. The Sharks took a new season-high 45 shots, and are looking to continue that pressure against Sacred Heart this weekend. Grace Dima scored her second goal of the season on Saturday, and Umpherville finished with her third assist of the weekend.
 
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
The Sacred Heart University Pioneers enter the weekend with a 2-6 overall record and a 2-0 conference mark. The Pioneers' two wins in NEWHA play were against first place Saint Anselm, after defeating the Hawks 2-1 in both games. Kennedy Spiering scored the game winner in the second game against the Hawks. Frankie Sanchez finished with 25 saves in net. Most recently, the Pioneers are coming off a 5-0 loss at Quinnipiac. Sanchez made 42 saves on 47 shot attempts against the Bobcats. Anna Klein has a team-high two goals this season, and Kelly Solak has a team-best three assists and four points. Sanchez has 323 saves in net and has a .895 save percentage.
 
UP NEXT
The Sharks will have the same schedule next week with a two-game series against Post University. The first game against the Eagles is on Friday, November 15 at the Sports Center of Connecticut with game time slated for 2:00 p.m. The Sharks will return home to close out the weekend on Saturday November 16 with a matchup against the Eagles at 4:15 p.m. at the Northwell Health Ice Center.
