BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Long Island University men's soccer team continues its final stretch of Northeast Conference competition with two road contests this weekend, opening against Robert Morris University on Friday, Nov. 1 and closing the weekend at Mount St. Mary's on Sunday, Nov. 3.
SCOUTING THE SHARKS (7-6-1,4-1-1 NEC)
The NEC named freshman
Papa Ndoye the league's co-Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after Ndoye netted two goals during the second half of the Sharks' victory against Bryant University this past Monday. The goals helped break a scoreless tie at halftime and gave Ndoye his second career game-winning tally.
Fellow classmate
Demetri Skoumbakis posted his second shutout in three matches during the win against the Bulldogs, making two first half saves to help LIU improve to 4-1-1 in league play.
SCOUTING THE COLONIALS (4-9-2, 3-3-1 NEC)
Robert Morris enters the match with a 3-3-1 mark in NEC play this season. Last weekend, the Colonials defeated Sacred Heart University by a 5-1 margin, though RMU has yet to win consecutive matches this season. The Colonials are 0-2-1 in games following a win and will be looking to buck that trend as they look to remain in the fourth and final playoff position.
Trailing 1-0 at the half, Robert Morris rattled off five-consecutive goals from five different scorers during the final 45 minutes against the Pioneers to earn three points in the conference standings. On the year the Colonials boast nine different goal scorers, with Ricardo Rota leading the team with four goals and eight points. Cristian Palermo leads the Colonials with three assists.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS (6-8-0, 2-4-0 NEC)
The Mount has struggled through the middle portion of NEC play, dropping its previous three contests heading into this weekend. Beginning with a road trip at Sacred Heart, the Mountaineers fell to the Pioneers, Bryant, and Merrimack College. Mount St. Mary's opens the weekend against Saint Francis (Pa.) at Waldron Family Stadium where the Mountaineers are 4-2-0 on the season.
Opponents have shut out Mount St. Mary's six times this season, leading to a 1.36 goals per game average. Yann Kouemi leads the attacking front, scoring eight goals this season to rank second in the conference.
