BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – A second-half goal by senior
Kyle Parish was not enough to lift the Long Island University men's soccer team past Merrimack College on Friday, Oct. 11 in a Northeast Conference match at LIU Soccer Park.
The Warriors opened the scoring during the first minute of play, finding the back of the net on a headed goal by Filippo Begliardi Ghidini. The one-goal margin carried into the second half until Begliardi Ghidini found Aasmund Joedahl who buried a curling shot during the 52nd minute.
Less than three minutes later sophomore
Javier Rehberger lofted a free kick into the penalty area that Parish headed inside the left post to pull LIU within one goal of the Merrimack lead. The Sharks rallied late, attempting three shots during the final seven minutes, including two shots on target, but could not find the equalizer.
Merrimack held a slight edge in shot attempts at 11-10, though the Sharks tallied more shots on goal (6-4). Senior
Matias Pesallaccia stopped two shots in goal.
LIU will have a week off before returning to action on Friday, Oct. 18 when it travels to New Jersey to take on Fairleigh Dickinson University beginning at 7:00 p.m.
