BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Long Island University men's soccer team is slated for just one Northeast Conference matchup this weekend, hosting the Merrimack College Warriors at LIU Soccer Park on Friday, Oct. 11 at 3:00 p.m.
SCOUTING THE SHARKS (4-5-1, 1-0-1 NEC)
LIU enters the match unbeaten in two conference games this season, most recently battling Sacred Heart University to a scoreless draw on Sunday, Oct. 6. Senior goalkeeper Matias Pesellaccia earned his first career clean sheet in the draw, making four saves on the afternoon.
Prior to the scoreless draw, the Sharks averaged 2.25 goals per game over their previous four contests, garnering a 2-2 mark during the stretch. LIU's offensive resurgence has been paced by freshman
Papa Ndoye and senior Kyle Parrish who have netted a combined five goals over the last five games. Ndoye currently ranks second in the NEC in shots with 33 and sixth in points with eight.
SCOUTING THE WARRIORS (4-3-2, 2-0-0 NEC)
Merrimack garners a 4-3-1 overall record but has had an outstanding start to conference play. In two victories, the Warriors are outscoring conference opponents by an 8-0 margin, including a 6-0 effort against Robert Morris University their last time out.
The Warriors also had an impressive showing on Tuesday, Oct. 1 when they played Boston College to a scoreless draw on the road. Merrimack goalkeeper Lucas Rezende made five saves to earn his third shutout of the season against the Eagles. Rezende's performance as of late has helped Merrimack to a four-match unbeaten streak, as the graduate student carries a 310-minute scoreless streak into Friday's match.
Junior Filippo Begliardi Ghidini, senior Aasmund Joedahl, and sophomore Tola Showunmi pose the three biggest scoring threats on the offensive end, combining for 21 points on nine goals and three assists this season.
