Steinberg Wellness Center

The largest building project on the Brooklyn campus' history, the $45 million, 114,000 square foot Steinberg Wellness Center opened in January 2006. Located at the corner of Ashland and DeKalb avenues, the Wellness Center is a hub of activity for student activities and athletic events. The SWC is home to the LIU men's and women's basketball, women's swimming, women's volleyball, and women's fencing teams.

The LIU men's basketball team christened the new home court with a 63-60 win over Sacred Heart on Jan. 26, 2006. The grand opening of the Wellness Center was for the LIU vs. St. Francis (N.Y.) men's basketball game on Feb. 27, 2006 - a 67-64 LIU victory.

The SWC features a 2,500-seat arena, an NCAA regulation-size swimming pool and a state-of-the-art fitness center and weight room. In addition, two tennis courts and a running track sit atop the roof. The SWC also features a wellness center that is geared toward a growing Brooklyn community.
