About LIU's Sports Medicine Staff
The Long Island University sports medicine staff is dedicated to the prevention, rehabilitation and recovery needs of over 200 student-athletes. The athletic training staff consists of three full-time athletic trainers and three graduate assistant athletic trainers, all of whom are NATA certified and licensed in the state of New York.

LIU's athletic trainers strive to place great attention and detail on each athlete in order to provide the best care possible. The sports medicine staff prides themselves on not only providing the best injury-specific plan of care, but also ensuring that the athlete's long-term health goals are met.

In the winter of 2005, a state-of-the-art Athletic Training Room opened in the Wellness, Recreation and Athletic Center. It is fully equipped with the latest modalities and rehabilitative equipment to ensure the needs of each individual student-athlete are fully met. The new Athletic Training Room allows the LIU sports medicine staff to conduct all short-term and post-operative rehabilitation on-site. The staff also works in conjunction with LIU's Center for Physical Rehabilitation in order to utilize a HydroWorx therapy pool.

The LIU sports medicine staff consults regularly with team physician Dr. Howard Levy, doctor of orthopedic surgery and sports medicine at Lenox Hill hospital. Dr. Levy and a network of medical staff work closely with the Blackbirds for their surgical and rehabilitative needs. For more information on Dr. Levy go to www.hlevymd.com.

In addition, all of LIU's athletic trainers are Approved Clinical Instructor's for LIU's Athletic Training Education Program. More information on the LIU School of Health Professions is available here.
