Blacksburg, Va. - The Long Island University volleyball team will visit Virginia Tech to take part in the Hokie Invitational. The Blackbirds, who are looking for their first win of the season, will play three matches at the weekend tournament beginning with a 3:00 p.m. tilt against Jacksonville State on Friday, Sept. 3. Long Island enters the Hokie Invitational at 0-3 following three losses at the season-opening Falcon Invitational, hosted by Air Force. Jacksonville State, like the Blackbirds, appeared in the 2009 NCAA Tournament. The Gamecocks are 2-2 following a 3-0 home win over Kennesaw State on Aug. 31.
The Blackbirds will play a pair of matches on Saturday, Sept. 4. At noon, Long Island will take on host Virginia Tech. The Hokies went 2-1 at the Comcast Lady Vol Invitational last weekend, hosted by Tennessee, with their lone loss coming at the hands of the No. 19 ranked Lady Volunteers on Aug. 28.
Long Island will wrap up play at the Hokie Invitational at 5:00 p.m. by taking on Coastal Carolina, another 2009 NCAA Tournament team. The Chanticleers went 0-3 at the Deacon Invitational last weekend, hosted by Wake Forest. Coastal Carolina is coming off a 3-0 loss to East Tennesse State University on Aug. 28.
