2010 Schedule
Brooklyn, N.Y. -
Head coach Kyle Robinson and the Long Island University volleyball team have announced the 2010 schedule. The six-time defending Northeast Conference champions’ upcoming campaign features 30 scheduled matches, including a quartet of early-season tournaments.

The Blackbirds will open the 2010 slate with a visit to Colorado Springs, Colo., for a tournament at Air Force. Long Island will kick off competition against the host Falcons on Aug. 27 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern before squaring off with Boise State and South Dakota State on Aug. 28. From there, the Blackbirds will travel to Blacksburg, Va., for the two-day Hokie Invitational hosted by Virginia Tech beginning on Sept. 3. In addition to the host school, Long Island will take on fellow 2009 NCAA Tournament participants Coastal Carolina and Jacksonville State.

The Blackbirds will make their first home appearance of the season on Sept. 10 for the annual installment of the Blackbird Invitational. Long Island will welcome Georgetown, NJIT and Yale to the Wellness, Recreation and Athletic Center for two days of festivities that includes Freshman Pride Day on Sept. 10. The Blackbirds will wrap up tournament play on Sept. 17-18 at the Villanova Classic, where they will face William & Mary, Maryland and the host Wildcats.

The rest of Long Island’s non-conference slate includes a visit to Stony Brook on Sept. 28 and a trek to Temple on Oct. 5. The Blackbirds begin their defense of the NEC crown on Sept. 25 when Robert Morris visits the Wellness Center. The 16-match, double round-robin conference slate concludes on Nov. 14 with a trip to Sacred Heart.

The highest seed in the NEC will host the conference tournament, featuring four teams, on Nov. 20-21.

The Blackbirds went 21-14 last season, including a perfect 16-0 record in conference play en route to their sixth consecutive NEC title.
