2010 Schedule
Brooklyn, N.Y. - Head coach TJ Kostecky and the Long Island University men's soccer team has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2010 season. The Blackbirds will kick off the season against NJIT on Sept. 1 on LIU Field. LIU will play eight home games in total, while facing three teams that participated in last year's NCAA Tournament.
LIU will open the season with a pair of home contests at LIU Field. Following the opener, the Blackbirds will welcome Cornell on Saturday, Sept. 4, before embarking on a five-game road swing.
Long Island will take part in a tournament at UNC Wilmington on Sept. 10 and 12. The Blackbirds will open the weekend against 2009 NCAA Tournament participant, Winthrop, before facing the University of Central Florida.
The Blackbirds will return to the New York City area with contests at BIG EAST opponents, Rutgers and St. John's on Sept. 17 and 19, respectively. LIU closes out its non-conference slate with a contest at Columbia on Sept. 24 and a home contest against Colgate on Sept. 26.
LIU opens its Northeast Conference slate at Sacred Heart on Friday, Oct. 1. The Blackbirds will also play conference road contests at Fairleigh Dickinson (Oct. 3), Bryant (Oct. 10), Saint Francis (Pa.) (Oct. 22) and Robert Morris (Oct. 24).
The Blackbirds host defending NEC champion Monmouth on Friday, Oct. 15, to highlight their home conference slate. LIU will also host Mount St. Mary's (Oct. 17), Central Connecticut State (Oct. 29), Quinnipiac (Oct. 31) and borough-rival St. Francis (N.Y.) (Nov. 5).
The NEC Tournament will be hosted by the regular-season champion. The semifinals will be contested on Friday, Nov. 12, and the championship will be on Nov. 14. The league's champion will earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
