Princeton, N.J. – Senior
Julius Mutekanga finished sixth in the 800-meter dash to lead the Long Island University men’s and women’s track and field teams at the ECAC/IC4A Championships over the weekend in Princeton, N.J.
For the women, sophomore
Jessie Gaines ran to a time of 13.83 in the 100-meter hurdles preliminaries before finishing 10th in the event semifinals. Sophomore
Jazmin Waller ran a 14.61 in the prelims and took 14th overall in the semis. The quartet of Waller, sophomore
Torrie Saunders, senior
Ashley Veney and Gaines took 12th in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 46.83
In the triple jump, junior
Danay Spencer grabbed sixth place overall after achieving a measure of 12.34 meters. Gaines leapt to a distance of 5.44 meters in the long jump en route to a 15th place showing.
On the men’s side, freshman
Nickolei Mahlung ran to a time of 10.76 in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash. Junior
Samuel Egadu raced to a time of 48.05 and senior Shelden Goffe recorded a time of 48.25 in the 400-meter dash.
The Blackbirds 4x400-meter relay team placed ninth recording a time of 3:11.63. Freshman
Brian Richards had a fifth-place showing in the long jump with a distance of 7.37 meters. Junior
Corryl Boyd snagged 10th in the event with a mark of 7.11 meters.
Mutekanga and Richards both will participate in the NCAA Outdoor East Regionals hosted by North Carolina A&T.
