Brooklyn, N.Y. - Sophomore Nik Conklin of the Long Island University men's soccer team was highlighted in the New York Daily News' "Your Education" advertorial on April 21. The section focused on the education opportunities at the colleges and universities in the metropolitan area. Conklin, a starter for the Blackbirds, is a media arts major.

In the special section, Conklin talked about his experiences and opportunities at the Brooklyn Campus to pursue his interests in screenwriting, cinematography and directing. In addition to pursuing his major in media arts, he is also minoring in English to better equip himself for his future jobs.

At LIU he has had the opportunity to take a screenwriting course taught by Norman Steinberg, who is an Emmy Award winner whose credits include co-writing the comedy classic "Blazing Saddles" with Mel Brooks. Conklin is also working as an intern at Brooklyn Cable Access Television.

On the field, Conklin has appeared in 35 games for the LIU men's soccer squad and made 33 starts during the past two seasons. He has helped the defense post seven shutouts in that time as well.
