Brooklyn, N.Y. - Long Island University had a total of 26 student-athletes representing five sports named to the Northeast Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll. A total of 545 student-athletes were honored by the NEC, which also named a Scholar-Athlete award winner in each of six winter sports. The total number of honorees represented a nine percent increase from the last year.
To be a member of the NEC Honor Roll, student-athletes must maintain a 3.20 or better GPA and complete at least one year in residence at an NEC institution. All scholar-athlete award winners must have earned a minimum of 60 semester hours, maintained a minimum cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 and participated with distinction as a member of a varsity team.
Additionally, two LIU student-athletes were named to the NEC Commissioner's Honor Roll for posting a GPA of 3.75 or better. Graduate Student

Long Island athletes from five winter sports garnered spots on the honor roll representing men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s indoor track and field and women’s bowling.
Senior Kurt Hoffman of Saint Francis (Pa.) was named the men’s basketball scholar-athlete, while junior Alisa Apo of Sacred Heart University was honored in women’s basketball. Senior Dean Brown of St. Francis (N.Y.) was chosen as the scholar athlete for men’s indoor track and field and Saint Francis (Pa.) senior Anna Hoffman was honored for women’s indoor track and field. Wagner senior Jessica Hart was chosen as the women’s swimming scholar-athlete and SHU’s Melissa Gagliardi won the award for women’s bowling.
