Blacksburg, Va. - The Long Island University baseball team wrapped up a four-game stint at Virginia Tech with a 12-4 loss, giving the host Hokies a sweep and dropping the Blackbirds’ record to 1-7 to start the season. Sophomore catcher
Tyler Jones went 3-for-3 in the game and freshman first baseman
Tito Marrero went 3-for-4.

Justin Topa had a rough outing on the hill, getting tagged for five runs (four earned) in four innings. He allowed nine hits and one walk while falling to 1-1 for the season. Topa struck out one.
The Hokies scored five runs in the third, added one in the fifth, scored four more in the sixth and tacked on two in the seventh to take a 12-0 lead. Long Island finally got on the board in the eighth when
Gerard Tingos scored on a wild pitch and
Drew Walsh hit a sacrifice fly. The Blackbirds scored two more in the ninth on a bases loaded walk by Tingos and a sacrifice fly by
Sam Sciamarelli.
Long Island will return to action with a spring break to Winter Haven, Fla. The jaunt will kick off with a game against Central Michigan on Friday, March 12 at 4:00 p.m.
